Lab Life

We’re a small group inside a big user facility. That means close mentorship, your hands on world-class instruments, and a steady stream of collaborators walking through the door.

  • Build the tools

    You won’t just run measurements. Group members design, build and push ultrafast optical, electron energy-loss, cathodoluminescence and ultrafast electron diffraction experiments.

  • Close mentorship

    A small group means regular one-on-one time with Archana, and postdocs, students and undergrads working side by side on the same setups.

  • Collaboration by default

    The Molecular Foundry hosts researchers from around the world. You’ll work with visiting users, Foundry staff across facilities, and partner groups at UC Berkeley and beyond.

  • Safety first

    Lasers, cryostats and electron beams demand care. Everyone completes Berkeley Lab safety training before working in the lab, and we look out for each other.

  • Life on the hill

    The Lab sits above UC Berkeley with views across the Bay. Seminars, Foundry events and the wider Berkeley science community are a shuttle ride away.

  • Where you go next
